Kathryn Walker Richardson for Mastering the Portrait.
April 1st - 3rd
Students explore how to effectively use photo references for painting a self- portrait in oil in this workshop. Emphasis is placed on how to create a photo reference, use a grid, mix pleasing and accurate flesh tones, understand edges, form, and values. Intermediate through professional levels are welcome in this three-day, fast-paced, structured workshop.
If you have ever wanted to paint a loved one, now is the time to learn from this award-winning, professional portrait artist. Ms. Richardson has painted realistic oil portraits for over 25 years represented by Fine Art Portraits and Associates of Oklahoma. With children as her specialty, Kathryn has painted the gamut of Governors, beauty queens, CEOs, and college deans.
An admirer of nineteenth century artists, Sargent and Cassatt, as well as Dutch masters Rembrandt and Hals, Kathryn employs her own style to bring out the desired mood and spirit of each painting. "Richardson is a sought after artist for her sensitive, soft and gentle portraits of people in their environments," wrote city columnist M. J. Vandeventer.
Harley Brown, Daniel Greene, Joanette and Cedric Egeli are a few of the renowned portraitists with whom Kathryn has studied. She cites in-depth instruction at the Cape Cod School of Art in MA, Art Students' League in NY, and the Atelier Lack in MN, and Scottsdale Artists' School in AZ. Much acclaimed portrait artist, Bettina Steinke, taught and mentored Ms. Richardson at the beginning of her painting career and included her in the selective Master Class.
"Let's create a work of art to be in your family for years to come," invites Kathryn.
